Prompt: After watching the short film Identity, write a blog post reflecting on how the masks in the film represent the pressure to fit in and the struggle to discover who you really are. Choose one moment from the film that stood out to you and explain why. Then, connect the film’s message to Langston Hughes’ poem “I, Too” and to the mask you are creating in class. What part of your identity do you want your mask to reveal?

Prompt Response -
One moment from the film that stood out to me was all the references to lesser/trapped beings and how you are just a pawn or cog in the machine. This connects to the poem where he refuses to be a pawn and instead claims his identity with confidence. Both the film and the poem show the struggle to be seen for who you really are. With the mask I’m making, I want it to be simple.

Summary -
Today in class, we read I, Too.

Reflection -
Today, we analyzed the poem I, Too.
